This is one of sixteen triptychs that tells a story about what might go on in confines of a motel room. Every aspect of this project was hand crafted; The set, the lighting, the photography, the processing and the three frames of 8x10 film used to make the final platinum/palladium prints.
I first conceptualized this project while traveling and making photographs. Each night, checking into a room that retained the somewhat sanitized remnants of the previous occupants. Cologne? A hair? A story .
The degree of comfort that soon engulfed me in the dulled arms of resignation was always a surprise. The room providing an anonymity that afforded respite, a detachment without judgement and the knowing that my presence would be erased as best as the housekeeper could manage in a minimum wage sort of way. Restoring this ever diminishing sanctuary for the next guest.
